Van Wingerden Greenhouse Company was founded by Mr. Aart Van Wingerden in 1972 and is the industry-leader in quality greenhouses.

His son, Richard Van Wingerden, acquired the company in 1985. Today, VWGC continues to grow and offer a full product line to all segments of the horticulture and agricultural industries. VWGC has a client base that allows it the affordability of vast experience with both the growers and the institutional market to serve our clients and customers well and ensure the successful production of quality horticultural products.

VWGC customers currently account for over 700 successful acres of production horticultural greenhouses across the United States.

Fifty Years of Growing Together

1972

Aart VanWingerden settles in the Mills River valley for the winter sunlight. Van Wingerden Plastic Greenhouse company begins.

The 1980’s

Richard VanWingerden acquires the company at ripe age of 26 years old and shortens the name to Van Wingerden Greenhouse Company (VWGC) to accommodate glass structures.

The 90’s

The company relocates to its current location on route 191 offering easy access to I-26 and I-40 for quicker product delivery.

VWGC pioneers the first fully hinged roof design with hinges at each gutter making both sides of the roof operable. This is referred to as the ‘MX Style’ for its similarities to the way an MX missile silo looks when opened.

early 2000’s

The development of lighter, thinner aluminum extrusions and the ceaseless progress of drive and control technology helped the ‘MX Style’ open roof concept become a reality. Within a few years other manufacturers were copying the design.

The 2010’s

Metrolina Greenhouses in Huntersville, NC becomes the largest single site heated greenhouse under one roof in the United States at over 200 acres – designed and manufactured by Van Wingerden Greenhouse Company.
