Rows of evenly spaced metal poles support the roof of a large, empty greenhouse with a translucent ceiling—designed by a leading commercial greenhouse manufacturer—to let in natural light and cast shadows on the white floor. - Van Wingerden Commercial Greenhouses

Commercial Greenhouses

Commercial greenhouses are at the heart of what we do. Whether you’re looking for a few thousand square feet or several acres under roof, we offer a range of structures designed to meet your specific growing needs — without unnecessary cost.

Our standard commercial build features a 36-foot clear span with 12-foot bays, though we can customize truss and bay sizes to fit your operation. Roofs can be fixed or vented, and glazed with your choice of double poly film, polycarbonate, acrylic, or tempered and laminated glass. No matter the project, we partner with leading industry suppliers to make sure you have access to the best equipment and specialty services available.

Panoramic Farms

Marshville, NC

The Structure

The greenhouse complex consists of five connected structures, each 36′ wide and 240′ long, totaling 43,200 square feet. The frame is built from hot-dipped galvanized steel for maximum durability and corrosion resistance. Posts, trusses, and gutters are all engineered to work together, with 18′ gutter clearance and a generous 15′ truss Aluminum gutters run the full length of each structure with built-in drainage and downspouts that connect to standard PVC pipe.

The Walls

South & West walls are glazed with rigid, UV-protected 8mm polycarbonate panels for excellent light transmission and insulation.

North & East walls are covered with Solar woven ultra fabric for natural airflow and ventilation.

The Roof

5 Operable Peaks — These open and close automatically using a motorized drive system, giving you precise ventilation control. Panels are covered with 6-mil, 4-year greenhouse poly film and can be adjusted with the push of a button.

10 Fixed Peaks — These are permanently glazed with the same high-quality 6-mil poly film, providing a stable, insulated covering without the mechanical components.

The Curtain System

Two independently controlled overhead curtain zones let you manage shade and temperature across the greenhouse. The curtain fabric provides 52% shade, 20% energy savings, and is fire retardant — giving you a better growing environment while cutting energy costs.

Rockwell Farms

Rockwell, NC

This project includes the design and installation of a fully engineered, gutter-connected greenhouse range covering just over 195,000 square feet — built for serious commercial growing.

The Structure

The greenhouse is divided into four zones, each made up of multiple bays running 300 ft long. Bays come in two widths — 36’ and 24’ — depending on their position in the range. Every post, truss, and frame component is hot-dipped galvanized steel. Posts are spaced 12′ apart throughout, and trusses maintain a generous 12′ clearance from floor to bottom chord, with gutters sitting roughly 15′ high.

Gutters are hollow aluminum MX3 extrusions with a spring-wire locking system. Rainwater drains through interior downspouts built into the gutters.

The Roof

The roof system combines three systems

Operable Poly Panels cover approximately 187,000 sq. ft. across 54 peaks, each glazed with 4-mil, 4-year greenhouse poly film. These panels open and close using a push/pull drive system powered by electric motors, giving growers precise ventilation control. Each zone has independent windward and leeward operation, so you can open one side to catch the breeze or open both to create a chimney effect and exhaust heat.

Fixed Polycarbonate Panels fill in the sections between the operable peaks near the central walkway — about 7,800 sq. ft. glazed with clear 8mm twin-wall polycarbonate for permanent light transmission and insulation.

An EPDM Rubber Expansion Section runs 324′ down the center of the range, covering the 2-foot gap between the north and south halves of the structure. It’s a watertight detail that allows for natural movement in the building.

Tri-Hishtil Farms

Mills River, NC

MXIII Greenhouse System commercial-grade greenhouse solution built for scale, durability, and year-round growing performance.

Structure

Eleven gutter-connected bays covering over 113,000 sq ft, designed for 25 psf snow loads and 90 mph winds. The entire frame — posts, trusses, bracing, and gutters — is hot-dipped galvanized steel. Truss clearance sits at 12 feet from the finished floor, with gutters at approximately 16 feet. Integrated aluminum gutters include condensation channels, interior downspouts, and a full stainless steel fall protection cable system throughout.

Roof

Structure features two roof configurations. Operable peaks feature motorized drive systems that open and close each of the eleven peaks independently, giving you active ventilation control. Fixed peaks provide a stable, energy-efficient envelope. Both use 4-mil, 4-year greenhouse poly film and connect to a shared double-layer inflation system for consistent insulation performance.

Walls

Gable walls, the side wall, and two interior partition walls are all covered with 6-mil poly film secured by aluminum wirelock and stainless steel wiggle wire — a durable, low-maintenance system that’s straightforward to service or replace. All wall inflation ties into the same system as the roof.

Shade Curtain

Three motorized overhead curtain zones — powered by 208V, 3-phase drive motors — give you precise control over light and energy across the full growing area. LS Luxous 1547 D FR shade fabric provides 15% shade in direct light, 24% in diffused light, and delivers 47% energy savings.

Heating

Twenty-two Modine natural gas unit heaters — two per bay — keep temperatures consistent throughout the range. Each unit delivers 288,954 BTU/Hr output with two-stage heat control and 24″ poly convection tubes that distribute warmth evenly down the length of each bay.

Growing Infrastructure

Boom rails for eleven irrigation booms are included, along with a complete table rail system featuring coated pipe, galvanized T-clamps, and custom extruded aluminum T-profiles — ready to support your preferred growing setup
